    Description

1810/09 S.281 Classic Head Large cent, PCGS F12.  Though our pictures make the coin look less than even in terms of color, in hand, it is a very nice, medium chocolate.  The surfaces do show their fair share of small, natural contact marks, but there are no other issues, and the aforementioned color is quite attractive.  This series is well known for very poor quality (the planchets were brought from England as ship's ballast, and were thus exposed to seawater and whatever else...), and it is really hard to find a pleasing, lower-grade example...such as this coin!
