Coin History
Produced from 1808-1814, the Classic Cent is one of the most conditionally challenging coin series in all of U.S. numismatics.  The Philadelphia Mint experienced considerable difficulty procuring high-quality copper planchets during these years, with the result that Classic Cents were unable to weather the rigors of circulation and time like most other Cent types.  As such, most survivors are well worn, dark and/or corroded.  Problem-free EF and AU examples of all issues are scarce, and true Mint State representatives are undeniable condition rarities.
