Custom Vintage Deco 1939 Wilcox Gay Recordio Now A Mini Bar & Bluetooth Speaker

This is a 1939 Wilcox Gay Recordio machine made in Charlotte Michigan. Very cool industrial/deco piece of US electrical equipment. It was one of the first home units to make 78 rpm recordings. Sorry to say that this machine was left too long in the barn. All of the original works were rusted & had to be removed. I wanted to convert this to Bluetooth but add a little more. I started by sanding/repairing the whole case. It is a mix of solid walnut & veneers. Added some oak toning to all of the prepared woods to match what it looked like originally 80 years ago.  Finished the oak with a golden stain covered with several coats of lacquer. Had to replace the hinge. Look at the pics. Was able to save & reuse the speaker bezel but had to use a radio dial from my stuff the replace the missing original. Found a great piece of period speaker cloth to keep up the deco cool. Normally I am presented with a challenge to start and this was no different inside & out. Now it looks better.  On the inside I was able to get the new 6 x 9 Pioneer 3 way speaker ( great base) installed matched with a new 100 watt digital Bluetooth amp. This really sounds nice. Used 3 matching knobs from my stock. The on/off/volume switch is on right of the front panel.  The 2 others are fixed. All of the electronics are hard wired and secured to the inner supports insure a long life. This is one of a kind Bluetooth speaker that is deco and industrial cool. A real conversation piece that makes a grand statement. There is a new electrical plug also. But I did not stop there. Cleaned & sealed the inner portion of the case so I could add some glitzy gold wall paper for a mini bar. The mini bar area is 17" wide x 11" tall x 9" deep. As you can see tall enough for the vodka bottle (10.5 inches) and several glasses. Added new 16" solid walnut legs for height & class. They are screwed in but will be removed to control the shipping costs on size. Easy to screw back on. Now this Bluetooth screamer with mini bar is ready for a new home. Yours or make it a gift.
