Description

This two ply birdseye maple shell was made by Moses Slater around the 1870s. I stripped the crusty shellac with alcohol and applied several layers of new shellac. The maple hoops were bent by Cooperman and finished by me. The heads are original. The hemp cord and leather ears are new.
The shell is 16-1/2” x 10” and the drum is about 17-1-2” x 12-1/2” overall. There are some hairline cracks in the outer veneer, which are typical for this construction type.
Overall the drum is in excellent restored condition for its age.
