RARE CIVIL WAR ERA U S BELT BUCKLE FOUND GETTYSBURG- PEACH ORCHARD- HAS BATTLE DAMAGE ON ONE END - THIS EXCAVATED EAGLE PLATE MEASURES 3 3/8" ACROSS - ONE END OF THE BRASS FACE IS TURNED UP - LIKELY FROM AN ARTILLERY BLAST - HAS IT'S TWO IRON HOOKS AND BELT HOOK ON THE BACK - LEAD FILLED BACK WITH BEAUTIFUL PATINA - UNTOUCHED PATINA - THIS RARE RELIC WAS DUG - FOUND AT THE PEACH ORCHARD MANY YEARS AGO BEFORE RESTRICTIONS AND LOTS OF PROPERTIES WERE PRIVATE - ON JULY 2ND 1863 THE PEACH ORCHARD WAS THE SCENE FOR SOME OF THE MOST HEAVY FIGHTING OF THE BATTLE AS UNION III CORPS IN THIER FORWARD POSITION WAS ATTACKED FROM TWO DIRECTIONS BY POWERFUL CONFEDERATE UNITS - THE III CORPS HAD BEEN MOVED BY IT'S COMMANDER. WITHOUT ORDERS . ABOUT 3/4 OF A MILE IN FRONT OF THE MAIN UNION DEFENSE LINE- THE CONFEDERATES SAW THE OPPORTUNITY AND HIT THEY HARD - ALMOST DESTROYED THE CORPS AS A FIGHTING FORCE -THE PEACH ORCHARD SAW IN THE CENTER OF THIS FIGHTING IN THE EARLY STAGE OF THIS BATTLE WITHIN A BATTLE - THE UNFORSEEN EFFECT OF THIS BATTLE WAS IT CHANGED THE PLANNED CONFEDERATE ATTACK OF FLANKING THE UNION LEFT AND DRIVING UP ALONG CEMETERY RIDGE AND MEETING UP WITH ANOTHER ATTACK ON THE UNION RIGHT FLANK AT CULP'S HILL - - IT MOVED THE BATTLE FURTHER SOUTH INTO THE WHEATFIELD AND THE ROUND TOPS - RARE RELIC AND GREAT ADDITION TO ANY GETTYSBURG OR CIVIL WAR COLLECTION
