Description
This 619 archtop acoustic guitar in sunburst finish was made by Kay in Chicago during the mid-1960s and sold under the Silvertone brand in the Sears catalog. It was outfitted with a pickup and input jack long before I acquired it about 18 years ago. There are no on-board controls for the electronic output signal; must be modulated by the amplifier. This specimen will require a bit of easy work to be fully functional. The guitar plays and works well, including the electronic output, but it has the wrong nut and replacement bridge so is not strictly playable. Very deep and resonant tone! Other than the bridge, nut, and electronics, the guitar is original including the tuners (mounted on wrong sides it appears), pickguard, and tailpiece. I don’t know the maker of the pickup but it is in a satin bronze finish and, obviously, quite old. Condition-wise it has no damage except for residual glue around the base of the neck/body joint indicating that it came loose at some point; very solid now (see photo). There is no truss rod but the neck is mostly straight with only a slight bow that doesn’t affect playing except if the action is lowered substantially. Two of the tuner ferrules have been replaced (see photo). A few frets (3) in the upper part of the scale (near the neck joint) have been replaced, and the fretboard has minor chips where the old frets were removed. The finish and binding are in good shape with only minor scratches and other blemishes. The pickguard is warped from exposure to high temperature prior to when I bought it, but still functional (see photos). The tailpiece is somewhat corroded but also still fully functional (see photos). A period chipboard case in poor/non-working condition will be included to protect the guitar during shipment. Please note that this is an older used guitar and that I am not a professional seller. Please do not bid if you are expecting perfection or if you have no tolerance for surprises. I have tried my best to describe and depict the guitar accurately but after selling items on eBay for 18 years know that misunderstandings are possible. I have no desire to deceive potential buyers to make a quick buck. If you have specific concerns or questions about the guitar please contact me before the auction ends.
